FERRITIN

FERRITIN-the major iron storage protein, naturally isolated from bovine spleen: Iron is vital for the production of proteins, hemoglobin, myoglobin and cytochrome. Most of the iron required by the body is used in bone marrow to make hemoglobin (red blood cells). Hemoglobin carries oxygen from the lungs to the billion of cells and tissues where it is exchanged for carbon dioxide. An adult will contain 3 - 4 grams of iron, half of which will be found in the hemoglobin. Also up to a gram is stored in the liver and the rest at various sites throughout the body, including the spleen, bone marrow and phagocyte cells (RES). One last point, ingesting iron turns to chloride in the stomach turning it's potential as a contributor to a taxing substance the body must now neutralize. Ingesting ferritin does not make this conversion and is the must effective way to get iron into the body.
